Remote Learning Provision at Ridgeway
Attendance is essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including for their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances. Therefore, at Ridgeway, remote education will only ever be considered as a last resort.
Circumstances where it might not be possible for pupils to receive in person education fit into 2 broad categories:
- school closures or restrictions on attendance, where school access for pupils is restricted
- individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but is able to learn
Pupils absent from school and receiving remote education will still be marked as absent in the register.
In the event that the school is closed for a single day, learning activities will be set for pupils via SeeSaw. These activities will support the continuation of learning and can be completed independently at home.
If the school is closed for more than one day and this is known in advance, pupils will be provided with a minimum of two hours of live lessons per day, delivered through Microsoft Teams. These live sessions will be supplemented with additional tasks or resources as appropriate. Where pupils do not have access to appropriate devices, a device will be provided from school.
Remote education will include recorded and/or live direct teaching time, as well as time for pupils to complete tasks, reading, and activities independently, depending on their age and stage of development.

Early Years (Reception, Sunbeams and Sunny Days)
In the event that the school is closed for a single day, learning activities will be set for pupils via Tapestry. These activities will support the continuation of learning and can be completed at home with adult support. The Early Years teachers will ensure that home learning activities are accessible and practical, making use of readily available household items as learning resources.
If the school is closed for more than one day and this is known in advance, Reception pupils will be provided with two hours of live lessons per day, delivered through Microsoft Teams. These live sessions will be supplemented with additional tasks or resources as appropriate. Where pupils do not have access to appropriate devices, a device will be provided from school. These sessions will include one hour of Phonics and one hour of maths.
Additional Online Resources to support children
All children from Year 2 to Year 6 have a logon for Times Tables Rockstars. This is a fantastic website that supports children in learning their times tables.
Once your child has logged in, they should play in Garage mode. This has an automatic training mode which starts with easy times tables and as the children get them correct, it adds in more times tables. This means that it is pitched at the right level for the children, so they’re able to practise getting quicker at tables that they know rather than struggling over many that they don’t know.
All children from Year 1 to 6 have a logon for Reading Plus. This is a website that is used to support pupils’ reading fluency, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development.
Pupils access Reading Plus through the website using their individual login details. The programme adapts to each pupil’s ability level, providing personalised reading texts and activities. Teachers monitor progress remotely and use the data provided to identify strengths, address gaps, and support continued reading development both in school and at home.
